Across the river from Rhea, Meigs County holds the east shoreline of Watts Bar and the upper reaches of Chickamauga. It is rural two-lane country with Decatur at its center and the Ten Mile lake community at its north end.

Meigs is the side of the river people choose on purpose. No interstate touches the county; the roads are two-lane, the land runs to pasture and timber, and the shoreline splits between broad Watts Bar water around Ten Mile and the river-and-refuge country where the Hiwassee meets the Tennessee.
Decatur, the county seat, keeps the courthouse-square rhythm, while the lake communities (Ten Mile especially) carry most of the waterfront market: coves, points, and long east-facing views back across to the plateau. Sunsets land on this side of the water.

Cherokee Removal Memorial Park
At historic Blythe Ferry, where thousands of Cherokee crossed the river on the Trail of Tears in 1838. The memorial wall records 2,535 heads of household from the 1835 census.
